Who we are

Area Code Lookup is an independent directory of North American area codes, published by the Area Code Lookup editorial team. We started the project in October 2026 with one goal: when you see an unfamiliar three-digit code on your phone, you should be able to understand it in seconds — where it was assigned, which cities and counties it covers, its time zone, and how to dial it correctly.

What each guide contains

Every area code guide on this site follows the same structure: a direct answer at the top, a key-facts grid (location, country, time zone, in-service year, code type, dialing format, approximate population served), a full cities-and-counties table, time zone details with world-clock comparisons, dialing formats for local and international calls, the history of the code, its overlay and neighboring codes, and a FAQ. Each guide also states the same honest caveat: because of number portability and internet calling, an area code shows where a number was assigned — never where the caller is standing.

How we source data

Our numbering facts are checked against the North American Numbering Plan Administration (NANPA) numbering plans, public regulator decisions, and carrier announcements, cross-referenced with the public List of North American Numbering Plan area codes and Local Calling Guide databases. Guides carry a visible "last updated" date, and we re-verify each guide against NANPA records when regulators announce splits, overlays or boundary changes. Population figures are recent census approximations of the covered territory.

Editorial standards

We do not publish sponsored placements inside guides, we do not sell caller identification or personal data lookups, and we name our sources on every page. Corrections are welcome — see the Contact & Corrections page.
